A Pause until September
Taking time to reflect on the future of this space
Hi everyone,
After six months of running The Romantasy, I’ve decided to take a pause until September. What began as an experiment quickly became something much bigger—creatively fulfilling, yes, but also time-intensive. Unfortunately, it’s turned into a full-time job that doesn’t pay, and I need time to reflect on whether and how to continue.
In recent weeks, I’ve seen subscriber numbers grow—sometimes 80+ new readers a day—which has been both encouraging and disheartening. Despite that momentum, engagement has remained low: very few likes, minimal comments, and an overall quiet that’s hard to read. I also recently sent out a post that was clearly throttled in the algorithm, and the drop in visibility was glaring.
This was the post:
What makes that especially hard is that I’m truly proud of the work. I’ve poured myself into posts that offered more than surface-level commentary—from the deep dive in The Five Trials in The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent, to the Divine Love, Brutal Pacing look at reader reactions to Carissa Broadbent’s duet finale, to the emotional anatomy of Raihn and the Rain Archetype. I explored why pain draws readers into romantasy, what makes Tamlin vs. Rhysand such a charged debate, and how authors like Ilona Andrews are reshaping the genre from the top down. I analyzed tropes, patterns, and even examined sex in romantasy—both when it works and why it matters.
These posts were crafted to open conversation and offer value to readers who love this genre as deeply as I do. But the silence has been loud.
This is just a pause, and I’ll keep you posted. I’m deeply grateful to those of you who’ve read, subscribed, and shared The Romantasy. Your encouragement has meant more than you know.
Thank you for being here.

Thank you so much for all of your hard work! I’ve really enjoyed all of your posts. I am disappointed in Substack’s algorithm because looking back it’s clear I wasn’t shown all of your posts, which is really unfortunate as this is the only subscription I pay for! Please take care of yourself and I hope that you continue one day.
Take care of yourself, my dear! We'll be here if/when you return <3
